Las Vegas jobless rate under 7 percent for first time since recession

The Las Vegas Valley's jobless rate fell to 6.6 in May, down 7.2 percent in April and 7.8 percent the year prior. Better than expected, this rate marked a seven-year low for the residents in the valley.

The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation that reported the numbers also noted this as the first time that local joblessness dropped below 7 percent since June 2008.

"Overall, the metropolitan areas are moving in the right direction, mirroring the health of the state as a whole," said the employment department's chief economist, Bill Anderson.
